Líneas de Investigación

  • Procesos biogeoquímicos terrestres, con énfasis en el estudio de las dinámicas de carbono orgánico y nitrógeno en el suelo de ecosistemas tropicales y semiáridos.
  • Estudio de los efectos del fuego, la gestión forestal, procesos erosivos, cambio de uso del terreno y cambio climático en las dinámicas de materia orgánica del suelo.
  • Ecología del fuego y ciclo del carbono pirogénico.
  • Aplicación de isótopos estables, hidropirólisis y técnicas de fraccionación para investigar dinámicas de materia orgánica y carbon pirogénico.

Trabajo en colaboración con un buen número de investigadores establecidos en diversas universidades europeas, americanas, asiáticas y australianas. Tengo especial interés en integrar la metodología y los resultados de mis investigaciones en los diversos cursos y seminarios que imparto.

Me motivan especialmente los cursos que regularmente conduzco en países en vías de desarrollo (ej. Kenia, Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina-Faso, etc). Estos últimos van dirigidos a mejorar la capacidad científica del personal técnico y académico de las universidades y centros de investigación de estos países  Por otro lado, tengo un gran interés en el desarrollo y evaluación de sistemas agrícolas sostenibles en regiones degradadas, para lo que mantengo estrecha colaboración con agricultores y diversas organizaciones en países africanos.

Mantengo vínculos con la industria a la que proporciono consultoria ambiental en temas relacionados con el manejo sostenible de paisajes.
